Halloween TV Show Favorites

Halloween-themed movies had always been my favorite part of the holiday season. ABC Family’s 13 Nights of Halloween made it possible, which makes me all the more grateful for spooky entertainment.

With my absolute interest in binging Halloween-themed movies, I figured, why not binge TV shows during this holiday as well?

There are dozens of TV shows that fit the holiday theme, but below are the ones I admire and don’t mind binging even when we’re not in October. If there is a TV show that’s not mentioned, it probably means I just haven’t seen it yet.

Binge-Worthy Halloween-Themed TV Series

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017-2019) | 3 SEASONS, 25 EPISODES

In my opinion, nothing beats Brad Silberling’s 2003 movie adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s novels of the same name. However, I do applaud Mark Hudis and Barry Sonnenfeld’s TV series adaptation for making the storyline just as intriguing and adventurous as the original movie and novels.

Maturity Rating: TV-PG • Genre: Mystery, Family Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Netflix

빙의 (Possessed) (2019) | 1 SEASON, 16 EPISODES

It’s often interesting to see psychics and law enforcement work together to solve a case. My heart was pounding, my own detective skills were put to the test, and a couple of tears may have been shed, but what made this chilling TV series a favorite of mine, other than the general storyline and characters, is the ending – not at that it ends, but how it ends.

Maturity Rating: TV-MA • Genre: Crime, Thriller • Original Language: Korean • Streaming Platform: Netflix

The Haunting of Hill House (2018) | 1 SEASON, 10 EPISODES

I will forever be amazed at the brilliant storyline and aesthetically pleasing cinematography that this series brings. Although the story alters between the past and present events, it was done so flawlessly that it was easy to keep up and understand what was going on, and lightbulbs were often lit up in my head after every epiphany. Also, Theo rocks!

Maturity Rating: TV-MA • Genre: Horror, Mystery • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Netflix

손 (The Guest) (2018) (2018; 1 season)

In addition to being a psychic and a detective, this TV series takes a turn by bringing a priest and supernatural twists into the mix. When the past connects with the present, things are bound to shake up a bit.

Maturity Rating: TV-MA • Genre: Drama, Mystery • Original Language: Korean • Streaming Platform: Netflix

The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017) | 8 SEASONS, 171 EPISODES

Although the main character kind of made this series a bit unbearable to watch, this has been, in my opinion, one of the best modern vampire stories out there. Add into the mix werewolves, witches, and doppelgangers? Yes, please. P.S. – Team Stefan and Bonnie all the way!

Maturity Rating: TV-14 • Genre: Supernatural Teen Drama • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Max

Goosebumps (1996-1998) | 4 SEASONS, 74 EPISODES

Goosebumps is the kid-friendly version of monsters and spooky stuff in the middle of the night. I’ve always been surrounded by books as a child and it’s also a good pastime to watch on a random day.

Maturity Rating: TV-G • Genre: Children’s Anthology Horror • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Amazon Prime Video

The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) | 1 SEASON, 9 EPISODES

I could admire Bly Manor as much as I do with Hill House, to which this is kind of the sequel, but I shall downsize my love for it for now. The spooks were less spooky, but the mystery was much more tragic. The characters were *chef’s kiss*, the cinematography was stunning, and the overall storyline was perfectly splendid.

Maturity Rating: TV-MA • Genre: Drama, Mystery • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Netflix

Sabrina: the Teenage Witch (1996-2003) | 7 Seasons, 163 EPISODES

Sabrina: The Teenage Witch is another child/adulthood favorite of mine. This show is one of the reasons why I loved dressing up as a witch every Halloween. Two loving aunts, a black cat for a pet, being a teenager (and eventually progressing through adulthood), and being half mortal half witch? Makes life all the more exciting, doesn’t it?

Maturity Rating: TV-G • Genre: Family, Comedy • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Hulu

Supernatural (2005-2020) | 15 SEASONS, 327 EPISODES

Anything other-worldly you can think of, the boys of Supernatural have probably fought them off at least once during the last 15 years. Seriously. Ghosts, ghouls, gods, angels, vampires, werewolves, fairies, witches, demons – there’s a reason why this show is called what it is. After all, saving people and hunting things is their family business.

Maturity Rating: TV-MA • Genre: Horror, Fantasy • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Netflix

What’s New Scooby-Doo? (2002-2006) | 3 SEASONS, 42 EPISODES

This list wouldn’t be complete without my favorite mystery-solving gang. There are a couple of other TV shows featuring the gang, but this is my favorite as the episodes focus on completely new cases, and I love seeing them in a variety of situations.

Maturity Rating: TV-G • Genre: Family, Mystery • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Max

The Walking Dead (2010-2022) | 11 seasons, 177 EPISODES

Zombies. If you love zombies, this is a TV show worth checking out. There will be a lot of violence, gore, and emotional unpredictability, so be prepared to not eat anything while watching.

Maturity Rating: TV-MA • Genre: Horror, Drama • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Netflix

Charmed (1998-2006) | 8 SEASONS, 178 EPISODES

Three sister witches save citizens in the big city of San Francisco from evil. Just another day in the office. Okay, on a more serious note, I love Charmed. It’s definitely taken a more modern twist on witches, but what I love about it is keeping it supernatural in a natural way.

Maturity Rating: TV-14 • Genre: Fantasy, Drama • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Hulu Live TV

Courage the Cowardly Dog (1999-2002) | 4 SEASONS, 52 EPISODES

Even though this is an animation, more often than not it spook me more than any other animation. I wouldn’t mind having a dog like Courage though – loyal, sweet, and most definitely…brave.

Maturity Rating: TV-PG • Genre: Comedy, Horror • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Max

Ghost Whisperer (2005-2010) | 5 SEASONS, 107 EPISODES

Get ready for lots of tissue on this one. Although there are jump scares, the tears come flooding out at the end of almost every single episode. What I love most about this series is allowing the ghosts to have a much deeper meaning and resolve with their physical life and close off a chapter in their journey with an understanding of the afterlife.

Maturity Rating: TV-PG • Genre: Drama, Fantasy • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Hulu
