Monthly Highlights | January 2021

Hi, hello.

It feels like it has been forever since I last updated.

And I can explain.

I wasn’t in any creative drought. I had posts lined up and scheduled to be posted throughout the month. However, one morning, I woke up with my left eye swollen and my right eye almost in a similar situation.

I was advised that my eyes were, to put it simply, strained.

So, in order to protect and heal them, I stopped my laptop and limited my phone usage. I initially planned my screen ban for two days, but my eyes were still feeling unwell. I decided to take the entire week off from writing and other work-related things.

I felt the strain weeks ago, but I didn’t think anything of it. I thought it was normal because I’ve been using my laptop for hours on end every day for the past four years and I’d feel the strain. But none had ever reached the point of my having to take a long break to rest my eyes until now.

I did get myself a pair of blue light filter glasses, but they didn’t work on my eyes. In fact, my eyes felt more strained whenever I’d use them. These were not prescribed glasses, but I do use regular prescribed ones when I’m not on my laptop (I’m near-sighted). So I’m not sure if I needed these blue lenses to be prescribed as well. If you have some tips for this, please comment them below or message me on any of my socials.

I am limiting the number of hours I spend using my laptop in order to protect my eyes, but I will do my best to provide at least one (1) blog post every week moving forward.

Entertainment

Streaming service(s) might change from the time of writing this post due to the services’ contract with the movie/TV show networks.

TERLALU TAMPAN (TOO HANDSOME TO HANDLE) (2019)

If you’re looking for a good laugh, I recommend watching this movie. It’s about a young teen who goes through life having people drool over his looks until he meets someone who isn’t affected. The movie illustrates themes of friendships, betrayal, young love, family, learning, and growing.

Maturity Rating: TV-14 • Genre: Comedy, Drama • Original Language: Indonesian • Streaming Platform: Netflix

PRODIGY (2017)

Honestly, the preview didn’t quite catch my attention, but I watched it anyway. And I’m glad I did. Although the majority of the movie took place in one setting, I found the entire storyline to be highly intriguing and intense. It tells the story of a psychologist and a 9-year-old genius who others deem too dangerous due to her telekinetic gifts.

Maturity Rating: TV-MA • Genre: Thriller, Sci-Fi • Original Language: English • Streaming Platform: Amazon Prime Video

LITTLE MIX'S "CONFETTI" ALBUM

I first listened to Little Mix in their “Salute” era, and I continued listening to their music throughout the years. I think they’re a group with incredible vocals and a powerful stage presence. But, because I’ve been on my K-Pop binge, I completely didn’t realize that they even released a new album back in November, and only noticed it this month, after also reading that Jesy left the group back in December *cries*. I adore all the songs on the Confetti album, with “Sweet Melody” being my favorite, and “Happiness,” “Holiday,” “Confetti,” and “My Love Won’t Let You Down” not being far behind.

DAILY YOGA APP

Due to my spare time, I finally had the motivation to work on my physical health and do yoga every day of the month. I’ve missed it so much, and my body is definitely thanking me for going back to it.

Lifestyle

BULLET JOURNAL

I have also made time to work on my bullet journal, and it’s done wonders in helping my mind calm down, get creative, and focus more on my goals. I’m still new at this, so my first month is quite messy and has tons of white-out, smudges, and plainness. But I’m so excited to do this throughout the year, and the years that follow. I’m currently using a dotted grid journal that I got from Walmart. I also can’t wait to get my hands on more stationery supplies.

Gratitude

I AM GRATEFUL FOR...

  • Eyes began healing.
  • Completing the revision of “The 7” website.
  • Being able to write again.
  • Began bullet journaling (BuJo).
  • The weather has been windy and chilly for most of the month.

A gratitude list doesn’t have to include major life events (but do include them when they do happen). Simple blessings, such as showering with clean water, are overlooked privileges to be grateful for.

Incorporate or reserve at least 10 minutes of your daily routine to write at least three (3) things you’re grateful for.

We all need a good reminder to keep our feet on the ground.
