What Is Love?

This post is completely out of the blue, and I have no idea how it will turn out, but after binging on Studio Ghibli movies for the first time, a lot of emotions have been felt which caused a bunch of unwanted fears and worries to surface that had been keeping me up late at night.

And I figured that by expressing my late-night thoughts would allow me to finally get an early night’s sleep.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, it would be appropriate to express my thoughts, and well, fears, on romantic love, especially since that had been a theme that’s made me bawl my eyes out throughout certain Ghibli films.

Love.

What is love?

Quite honestly, I have never been romantically in love with someone else, so I wouldn’t know the first thing when it comes to being emotionally involved towards someone who I might be spending the rest of my life with.

Of course there are the books, TV shows, and movies that give me ideas as to what could be, and I have witnessed the love of my close friends and their partners evolve throughout the years, but I’ve also learned that I could be experiencing the type of love that’s completely different from them.

But, what is love?

I grew up watching Disney films, and so I expected love would come to me in the form of a prince in shining armor, riding atop a beautiful horse, and taking me away to our happily ever after.

And after waiting for this certain prince to show up, I realized why those stories were called fairytales. Then again, everyone has their own version of their happy ever after’s, huh?

As much as I want to know mine, I understand that this is one of life’s mysteries that will slowly unfold as I continue making my journey through it.

Yet, I still wonder what is love?

Once my Disney version love story began to fade, I began wondering what kind of love story the universe would actually make me experience. Of course I know life has many tricks up its sleeve and I may not get everything I hope and / or want, but I can still dream right?

This close-to-reality kind of love story...

It’ll be like a rollercoaster of emotions and adventures. There will be a lot more healing that’ll take place because some things are not meant to be healed alone. There will be differing opinions and disagreements between the both of us. There will be flaws about each other that the other will have to accept because they’re too little for either of us to deter from the love we have from each other, and such flaws remind us that we’re imperfectly perfect.

And all of these are beautiful because there’s more to this love story.

There will be a lot of laughter, a lot of understanding, a lot of being ourselves, a lot of expressing each other’s thoughts and feelings – the good and challenging. We’ll be traveling the world together, experiencing beautiful moments. And when we’re done being extroverts, we’ll be underneath roof of the lovely home we built together that’s overlooking the ocean and surrounded by nature that’s as warm and colorful as the ones we see in the Ghibli movies. We’ll both be working on our own passions, and when we get together we can escape to other worlds provided by Studio Ghibli and Harry Potter and the worlds that he enjoys. We’ll be enjoying quiet moments gazing towards the ocean or up towards the moon and stars.

This is my fairytale.

And while I wait for it to happen, I’ll be focusing on my own self-love, self-growth, self-healing, and happiness because these are the beginnings of my fairytale.
